Baby Layettes for the upcoming births of friends and family! So fun to make the matching sets. The fabrics are from Joanns and the colored diapers are from Target. The onsies I picked up at a local TJ Maxx. I am trying to use my embroidery function on my sewing machine a bit more. I used Guitermann embroidery thread from Joanns as well.

This is Dani Elms. She is a lovely young lady who was interested in joining our sewing class at my home on Monday evenings. She was interested in making Yoga Mat Totes as she has an opportunity to sell them at a friend's Yoga Studio. She used vintage red print fabric that belonged to her gramma. The fabric was from old flour sacks. It turned out really cute! Can't wait to see what else she comes up with!

Updating the backyard with new accessories

It is amazing how much the sun can fade fabrics. I decided that our old accessories that I had in our backyard were in serious need of an update. I found this adorable fabric at Joann's and happened to have some scraps of burlap laying around begging to be used. We use our patio so much in the summertime what with the beautiful weather we have here in Southern California.

This fabric which was purchased from Joann's was prequilted which made it a snap to sew into a very patriotic table runner for my daughter's home. This is actually my kitchen table that we have had since before our girls were born. I had to try it out to see how it looked. I hope she likes it!

The Grace Apron Dress pattern is available on Etsy and I just happened to have the fabric from a fat quarter collection that was in need of some use. Pattern directions were easy to follow. I can't wait to see her in it!

My daughter saw an apron on Pinterest that was used to gather eggs or possibly vegetables or fruits from the garden. Of course once she said she would like one and I looked at it, I thought that I should try and make one for her! The fabrics are from Joann's and the fabric with the chicken's on it is a Henry Alexander Design. It is so cute with all the chickens running all over it and those lovely Red Roosters taking charge! Big Bite Tool

When it was time to punch the holes in Jack's Color Book, my daughter suggested we use her "Big Bite" tool. It worked out beautifully! The great thing about it was it would punch through the thick felt and also the bite is adjustable so you can go as deep as you need to.

The start of a new craft for me! Needle felting. I took one of the headbands from Joann's dollar bin to practice on. I had purchased the wool roving, needles and block from a crafter at a craft fair recently. It is really easy and now I can't wait to start another project. Perhaps on a cardigan sweater!

Teresa, my daughter and I were talking one day about the quality of the baby towels and how they weren't very warm. Sew I got an idea to take a regular towel cut it in half and use that instead of the ones you can purchase. I know that alot of them have the hoods attached in the corner, but for an infant we thought that just bundling them up in this would be better. We will see when Elizabeth arrives in February!

This is Ayesha's quilt that she has been working on. This is a tribute quilt. The centers of the blocks have patches of fabric from her mother's clothing. It is sew beautiful.

Stitch Magazine - Apron Pattern

I found a new magazine, at least new to me, Stitch. I don't know about anyone else, but there just isn't a very large selection of sewing magazines that have to do with general sewing with different projects etc. There seem to be lots of quilting magazines out there so I was excited when I ran across this issue. Included in the magazine are full size patterns as well. This particular pattern was not included in the full size patterns, but it gave directions for cutting it out by measurements. It was challenging and once it was cut out I put it up to me and it was very long, so I cut off 6 inches along the hem line so that it was shorter. I also installed a wide curved pocket and added bias tape to the upper edge of it. I sewed the pocket down the middle creating two pockets.

Another Amy Butler pattern! What can I say, I just really love her designs. This fabric was left over from my daughter's hospital gown when she went in to have my grandson, Jack. I purchased the fabric at JoAnn's and I believe they still carry it. The pattern was purchased at a quilt shop in Palo Alto, but I know that Tall Mouse carries her patterns as well. Fairly easy to make, directions easy to follow.

I just had to share with you what I did with my paper from Amy Butler. There Hershey bars wrapped up in beautiful paper and I used my Sizzix to cut out the flowers. I keep a half dozen or so on hand at work so I can slip one into a mail box of someone who is celebrating their birthday.

Tooth Fairy Pillow & Pillowcase

This fabric is from Alexander Henry "Sprites of Tillbrook". I ordered it on line and was hoping I was going to like it, you know how that goes. Well it is just adorable and there is coordinating fabrics that go with it as well. The pattern for the pillowcase is on line and there are probably over 1/2 dozen out there. I know that Tall Mouse has a store pattern that they give out for them as well. The tooth fairy pillow is made up from one I saw that my friend Ayesha made for her daughter. It is basically a rectangle embellished and sewn up and stuffed. Very easy both of them. My Emily's personal tooth fairy couldn't find where Em placed her tooth so we are hoping that this will solve that problem for future visits.

Domestic Goddess Apron by Amy Butler

The pattern has a half apron and a full apron with a variety of 3 styles. This one even has a loop to hold a towel! The ties are long enough that they can be tied in the front or the back. It was easy except the directions for the pleats that are in between the pockets are not very clear and neither were the diagrams. I just winged it! The fabric I purchased at Tall Mouse. It is Timeless Treasures Fabrics, era c 4993. All in all I will defintely try the full apron!

The Sabrina Tunic

I decided to use this birdie fabric that I have had for about 4 months. I purchased it at Joann's along with the contrasting green fabric. It doesn't have a manufacturer on the selvidge edge strangely enough neither one of them do. The pattern I bought at a quilting store in OC while shopping at fabric and quilting shops in South Orange County. The Pattern is The Sabrina Tunic by Serendipity Studio. It is the first time I have used one of their patterns and it took me at least reading through the whole thing once and then reading and rereading it as I constructed this Tunic. After all is said and done - this is an easy pattern and enjoyable to sew but the written directions could of been written in a way that you didn't have to read and reread. I do know that it fits perfectly and it is a multi-sized pattern. It has everything from XXS-XXL sizes on it. I think I will try a dress out of it while the directions are still fresh in my mind! Let me know what you think!

The Frenchy Bag - Amy Butler Pattern & Fabric

I just finished this new bag by Amy Butler. It is called The Frenchy Bag. It was pretty easy to cut out and sew. Directions were clear and concise. Using "Sew in" Pellon 40 Interfacing took time to sew onto each piece but the results were well worth the work. I used Amy Butler's Lotus Oxford Stripe Lime for the upper outside of the bag and for the larger cosmetic bag. Temple Garland Sky was used on the outside lower part of the bag and the small inner pocket, it was also used on the small change purse. Full Moon Polka Dot Sky was used for the inner lining. It took me about 4 hours to cut out and construct. BTW I added the small inner pocket and it is not included in the pattern. I used a two 4X6 pieces of fabric to create the pocket. This is an adorable bag!

I made Emily the "Save the Trees" slumber party bag, pillowcase and wristlet from fabric at Joann's. I spotted some today so I know they still carry it. I got the Strawberry Shortcake fabric there as well. The bag pattern is from Tall Mouse and is a box bottom shopping tote. I added the pockets and trim. There are pockets on the inside as well. The pillowcase pattern is from my friend Claire. It has french seams inside. A little birdy told me that Emily has a friend that would love the Strawberry Shortcake set! I wonder when her Birthday is?????

Is this fabric not the cutest? I got it today at Joann's Fabrics. It is a pinwale corduroy and it is super soft. I haven't hemmed the jumper yet as I need to measure some little girl to make sure it is the length she would like. Won't it be cute with a little blouse or shirt under it? What color shirt do you think I should make? Possibly a turtle neck for winter?

I just couldn't pass up these prints for Jack! Front and center Mary Engelbreit for V.I.P. Jack and the Bean Stalk, Left back Michael Miller Rodeo Music, and Right back Monster Machines by Tricia Cribbs. The great things about these are they can be slipped over their heads and you can use both sides if you wish! There is a soft cotton neck band on each one. Pretty easy to make - took about 30 minutes for each one.

This case has a square bottom to accomodate the electronice flash which is a box shape rather than a round one for the lenses. It was super easy and fast to make.

After I made Amy Butler's Business Card Case I decided to try a wristlet. I had made a few zippered pouches and decided to design my own pattern and make it have rounded corners. I was perusing Amy Butler's website and came across this free pattern to make a card case. It turned out adorable. The only problem I had was that my velcro squares didn't line up exactly and you have to install them before you assemble a large portion of the pieces. I also found that that one side was a bit too long to fold into the inside and had to make adjustments. I am going to attempt another one to see if maybe it was user error! Digital SLR Accessories

After looking at many tutorials on making camera accessories I decided to attempt making a lense case for my zoom lense and a camera strap with a pouch for my lense cover which I was losing on a regular basis much to my husband's dismay. So what do you think? I know it is hard to see the pouch in the bottom picture but if you look in the bottom left hand corner you can see a little envelope attached to my strap. I am going to attempt a pouch for my flash next. Wish me luck!
